Approved Weather Stations

Reviewed: August 2026

The WeatherXM Network Association envisions a diverse, multi-vendor hardware ecosystem where certified stations from multiple independent manufacturers contribute high-fidelity meteorological data to the global network.

Hardware Certification & Specifications

To protect network data integrity and ensure reliable meteorological measurements, all hardware models participating in the WeatherXM Network must receive formal certification from the Association.

The Association:

  1. Publishes Station Specifications: Setting minimum sensor accuracy thresholds, environmental durability standards, and cryptographic signature requirements.
  2. Maintains the Approval Process: Reviewing third-party hardware submissions, conducting laboratory calibration tests, and verifying firmware compliance.

Manufacturer Onboarding Fees

Hardware manufacturers must pay a mandatory onboarding fee of $100 USD to the Association for every certified device produced and provisioned for Network participation.

These fees flow directly into the Association Treasury to fund protocol development, network quality auditing, and ongoing station reward pools.

The Association publishes periodic announcements regarding collected onboarding fees:

Pre-Association Weather Stations

Prior to the formal incorporation of the Association on December 24, 2023, 7,795 weather stations had been manufactured and deployed by WeatherXM AG and partner EXM PC. These early devices were grandfathered and granted network approval by default.
