Governance Overview ​

The WeatherXM Network uses a community governance framework allowing $WXM token holders to propose, deliberate upon, and vote on key protocol parameters, ecosystem initiatives, and treasury expenditures.

Because the WeatherXM Network coordinates physical hardware and real-world sensing assets, governance decisions are deliberated transparently on-chain and implemented by the Association's General Assembly.

The Governance Proposal Lifecycle ​

Every formal governance change undergoes a structured three-phase review and voting process:

Phase 1: Temperature Check & Discussion ​

Anyone in the community can initiate a proposal by opening a discussion thread on the official GitHub Discussion board:

  • GitHub Stage 1 Ideas Forum
  • A proposal begins as an informal concept outlining the motivation, expected benefits, technical feasibility, and financial implications.
  • Community feedback is gathered to refine the proposal into a concrete, actionable specification.

Phase 2: General Assembly Review & Approval ​

Once a proposal demonstrates clear community interest:

  1. A member of the General Assembly (GA) sponsors the proposal for formal review.
  2. The General Assembly evaluates the proposal for clarity, technical viability, financial feasibility, and compliance with the Association's Articles of Association.
  3. The General Assembly issues a formal approval or rejection within 14 days of submission.
  4. Approved proposals advance to on-chain voting.

Phase 3: On-Chain Snapshot Vote ​

Approved proposals are published for on-chain voting on Snapshot:

  • Voting Platform: snapshot.org/#/weatherxm.eth
  • Eligibility: Any wallet holding $WXM at the designated snapshot block is eligible to cast a vote.
  • Voting Power: 1 $WXM = 1 Vote.
  • Voting Duration: Voting remains open for 3 to 7 days.
  • Quorum Requirement: A minimum quorum of 150,000 votes is required for a vote to be valid.
  • Voting Options: YES, NO, or ABSTAIN (abstentions count toward fulfilling the quorum).

Implementation Commitment ​

When a governance proposal passes on Snapshot meeting all quorum requirements, the General Assembly of the WeatherXM Network Association has committed to honoring the community's decision and enacting the operational or technical adjustments required.
