Two Organizations, Two Roles

The WeatherXM ecosystem is built on a clear separation of concerns between public protocol governance and commercial infrastructure operations:

How Network Participation Works

The WeatherXM Network is operated by thousands of independent station deployers across more than 85 countries:

  1. Operate — Deploy an approved weather station in an optimal physical siting environment.
  2. Contribute — Connect your station to stream continuous meteorological ground observations.
  3. Qualify — Server-side quality-of-data (QoD) algorithms evaluate sensor validity, location consistency, and operational uptime.
  4. Reward — Qualifying stations receive daily programmatic token rewards ($WXM) based on verified data contributions.
  5. Govern — Token holders propose and vote on protocol parameters, network expansions, and treasury allocations.

How Network Value Flows

The Network's economic model creates a sustainable loop between physical ground deployment, data verification, commercial demand, and operator incentives:

  • Manufacturer Onboarding Fees: Hardware manufacturers pay $100 per device to the Association to certify and onboard stations to the Network.
  • Commercial Dataset Licensing: Enterprise data consumers license the Network Dataset through annual commercial auctions.
  • Operator Rewards: Network operators receive daily $WXM rewards for providing continuous, high-quality meteorological ground truth.

Network Dataset & Commercial Licensing

The Network Dataset comprises billions of verified ground-truth meteorological observations from around the world. The Association ensures open access for personal and academic research while conducting structured annual auctions for commercial exploitation.

  • Current Commercial Licensees (2026):
    • WeatherXM AG — Commercial weather infrastructure, Pro APIs, and forecasting products.
    • Zeus Bittensor Subnet — Machine intelligence and decentralized AI inference.
  • Open & Academic Access: Community access via decentralized index bundles and research licensing.
