Network Dataset & Access
The Network Dataset represents the collective, decentralized output of thousands of certified ground-truth weather stations across more than 85 countries. It includes continuous time-series observations of temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind dynamics, precipitation, solar radiation, quality-of-data (QoD) validation scores, and station metadata.
The WeatherXM Network Association oversees the distribution and licensing of this dataset, balancing public research access with structured commercial licensing.
Access Pathways
Depending on your use case, the Network Dataset can be accessed through several distinct channels:
┌──► 1. Public Explorer & Mobile Apps (Real-Time Visuals)
│
[ Global Network Dataset ] ────┼──► 2. Decentralized Index on IPFS (Open Daily Bundles)
│
├──► 3. Academic & Climate Research (Bulk Archives)
│
└──► 4. Commercial Licensing (Annual Auction Rights)1. Personal & Public Exploration
- WeatherXM Explorer (explorer.weatherxm.com): A live interactive map displaying all public stations, operational status, cell density, and recent meteorological graphs.
- WeatherXM Mobile App: Free iOS and Android mobile interfaces for station operators to view real-time and historical measurements from their own stations.
2. Open Decentralized Dataset (IPFS)
For open-source developers, data auditors, and decentralized science (DeSci) researchers, the Network publishes daily cryptographic observation bundles:
- Decentralized Data Index (index.weatherxm.com): Browse and retrieve published daily archive bundles hosted on IPFS and decentralized storage networks.
- Data Completeness: Bundles include raw station readings, cryptographic attestation proofs, and server-side QoD scores.
- Usage Terms: Non-commercial evaluation and personal analysis are permitted pursuant to the Terms of Use (PDF).
3. Academic & Research Access
The Association is committed to advancing atmospheric science, climate resilience, and meteorological modeling. Accredited academic institutions, university laboratories, and non-profit climate research organizations can request access to bulk historical data archives.

4. Commercial Dataset Licensing
Any commercial use of the aggregated Network Dataset — including commercial forecasting, proprietary algorithmic trading, parametric insurance settlement, or enterprise API resale — requires an active commercial license granted by the WeatherXM Network Association.
Commercial licenses are awarded through an annual competitive auction process conducted by the Association.
